Huntersville police identify woman hit, killed by car on New Year’s Day

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Huntersville late Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Statesville Road between Gilead Road and Hunters Road.

Police said Mary Daykon, 65, of Dubois, Pennsylvania, died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle has not been charged.

No further information has been released.
