‘People feel very violated’: Police charge ‘Peeping Tom’ in several cases near UNCC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a “Peeping Tom” has been terrorizing the community near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The man police arrested, 27-year-old Messiah Santario Mazyck, has been charged in six separate cases for publicly exposing himself to strangers near UNC Charlotte.

Detectives said he could be tied to as many as 50.

Police told Channel 9 Mazyck used airdrop to send obscene photos and videos of himself to strangers.

He also exposed himself in public and walked in through unlocked apartment doors to perform obscene acts.

CMPD said victims are thankful he’s been caught and that the acts never escalated to anything violent.

“Obviously people feel very violated when they see something like this, and especially feel very violated if someone enters their home to engage in this kind of activity,” CMPD Capt. Joel McNelly said.

Here’s where the incidents took place:

  • University Village Apartments
  • Ashford Green Apartments
  • 49 North Apartments
  • The Mill
  • Mallard Glen
  • The Villas at Mallard Creek

Detectives said they expect there are more victims in this case and they are asking them to come forward.

Right now, Mazyck is facing seven charges, including felony dissemination obsenity, public masturbation and secret peeping.
