CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a motorcyclist was killed in a northwest Charlotte crash Sunday evening.
The crash happened just before 5:40 p.m. near Valleydale Road and Cottonwood Park Drive.
When officers got to the area, they found a yellow Kawasaki motorcycle and its rider, 41-year-old Seddrick Major. Major was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation into the crash shows Major was speeding on the motorcycle when he lost control and ran off the side of the road. He then hit a utility pole and a street sign before falling off the motorcycle.
Police said he was wearing a helmet, but excessive speed and reckless driving appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Authorities do not know if any form of impairment was involved, but they said they are waiting on test results.
