Man drowns while swimming with friends in pond in Steele Creek community

STEELE CREEK, N.C. — A man drowned Friday evening at a pond in the community of Steele Creek.

Channel 9 reporter Briana Harper reports a mobile crisis unit arrived shortly after 8 p.m. at the location of the drowning, along the 4500 block of a private road called Eagle Lake Drive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the victim and several friends were swimming in a pond behind their home. The victim went under the water and was later pulled from the pond by his friends, but was pronounced dead.

CMPD said foul play is not suspected.
