Plaza Midwood seafood market closing after drop in business due to construction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The owner of a popular seafood market in Plaza Midwood said the market is closing down because construction caused a huge drop in business.

Saturday was Catch on Seafood’s last day of business at the Hawthorne Lane shop.

The owner said construction on the Gold Line streetcar, and closing of the Hawthorne Lane Bridge, has led to a 60 percent drop in sales.

Several businesses in the area told Channel 9 they are suffering because of road construction and closures tied to the Gold Line extension.

Last year, city council approved $150 million in changes to the rail line.

When construction is finished in 2020, the streetcar will run from Elizabeth to west Charlotte.
