CHARLOTTE — Sharrieff Gray pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison for the shooting of Ronnie Ruth on Nov. 19, 2024, at the Charlotte Fast Mart on Tom Hunter Road in northeast Charlotte.
Ruth walked in to buy a pack of cigarettes and a drink, but while at the counter, Gray walked in and shot him three times in the head before running away.
Ruth’s family said they were relieved that the case was over and they could finally move forward towards forgiveness.
“I’m always going to talk about my dad and hopefully, I can help other families navigate through this process, but I got justice for my dad today,” said the victim’s daughter, Crystal.
Gray’s defense attorney said the two had arguments in the past, but Ruth’s family said that was not an excuse for taking someone’s life.
