ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — One person died in a two-car wreck near Salisbury Thursday morning, police said.
Rowan County officials said two others were injured, including a 10-year-old boy.
The accident occurred on Highway 70 near Parks Road just west of Salisbury around 7:30 a.m.
Troopers said the driver of a Toyota, Frederick McDaniel, was turning left onto Highway 70 from a side street when he pulled in front of an SUV. McDaniel died in the accident, troopers said.
Channel 9 spoke to a man who was working construction in the area who said he heard tires squealing and turned around in time to see the collision.
Andy Morgan described what he saw and said he rushed over to help until EMS arrived. "I seen right when it hit, when it hit, it was loud and it just crushed his door in," said witness Andy Morgan.
The 10-year-old was a passenger in the Toyota and was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, officials said.
The female driver of the SUV was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center, troopers said.
The scene was cleared just before 9 a.m.
Troopers said no charged will be filed against the SUV driver.
The 10-year-old boy's name has not been released.
