SALISBURY, N.C. — Police have identified a 15-year-old suspect in connection with a July shooting in Salisbury.
According to a release form the Salisbury Police Department, it happened in the 700 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Police say someone shot at a passing vehicle and a nearby home, but no injuries were reported.
Surveillance video from July 30 showed a teen firing a handgun toward a passing vehicle from the parking lot of Friendly Food Mart. Investigators say the vehicle was hit twice by bullets and a house across the street was hit once.
Detectives connected the suspect to the shooting after reviewing records from a previous police call in the same area in April. Body camera footage from that incident showed a juvenile matching the person captured in the July 30 surveillance video.
Investigators say they interviewed the 15-year-old and searched his home, recovering additional evidence connected to the shooting.
Authorities plan to seek a juvenile petition against the teenager. Detectives also reviewed potential charges related to school attendance and charged the suspect’s parent with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
