Police investigate repairman scheme in Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Statesville Police Department is investigating after two people said they were schemed by a household appliance repairman, according to a news release.

Police said in the past two months, a man advertised as an appliance repair business and created websites for the businesses. Two Statesville residents contacted him about coming to their home and possibly repairing an appliance. One asked for a washer to be fixed and the other a refrigerator.

The man came to each residence, looked at the appliance and told the resident he would need to order a part to repair it. The people then wrote him a check and he said he would obtain the part and return.

The man never returned. Police discovered he would cash the check at a bank the next day. The people who tried to contact him found the phone number disconnected and false addresses.

Police said the man identified himself as David Henderson and used two business names for the websites. One was called Affordable Home Appliance Repair of North Center Street in Statesville and the other All In One Appliance Repair in Maiden.

Statesville police are asking anyone with information or affected by this scheme to call Investigator Crystal Scott at 704-878-3406.
