CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators believe the same man is behind several armed robberies that have happened since November. The incidents happened all over Charlotte, plus one in Matthews.
Charlotte police said the man hit a McDonald's, three convenience stores, an ATM and a hotel. They hope the public will recognize the suspect.
"My heart started pumping, everything sounded weird and different," said Jerome Taylor.
Taylor said he started to pray for his safety when a man came up to him at an ATM early Tuesday morning and demanded his pin number and money.
"Held a gun about this close to my face," said Taylor.
As Taylor did what he was told, he just hoped that despite the suspect's efforts to cover the camera, pictures were being taken. Police said they were.
But Taylor said there was something distinct about the suspect that he won't forget.
"His disguise, he had Scotch tape on his face, on his chin, and masking or boxing tape, clear tape on his forehead," said Taylor.
Police said they believe that suspect could also be connected to five other robberies since November 23rd.
"We want to stop him and prosecute him," said Sgt. Brian Scharf with the CMPD armed robbery unit.
CMPD gave Eyewitness News surveillance pictures from the McDonalds, three convenience stores and a hotel in Matthews.
It doesn't appear the suspect was wearing tape in those videos.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward and police believe the photos will help someone identify the suspect.
"Now it's just a matter of time, and I would say a very short bit of time," said Scharf.
Taylor said that he hopes so.
"You don't want anyone to experience the same situation," said Taylor.
Scharf said they believe the suspect may be driving a black four door Lincoln with tinted windows and a stripe across a cracked windshield .
