SHELBY, N.C. — Two men are in jail after they allegedly tried to hide a bag of cocaine behind some trees Thursday.
Police charged Stephen Lemont Bennett, 39, and Todd Torell Bennett, 34, each with one count of possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine and one count of resisting a public officer.
Both men have the same listed address on Murdock Circle in Shelby.
An officer responded to a trespassing call on South Washington Street around 12:03 p.m. The suspects were described as two black men wearing jackets.
As the officer called dispatch to verify the men’s names, he saw Todd Bennett lean behind Stephen Bennett and toss a bag behind some trees, according to the police report.
The officer found the bag which contained eight crack cocaine rocks. Todd Bennett tried to run away before was arrested, according to the report.
Todd Bennett’s bond was set at $15,000 secured. Stephen Bennett was jailed under a $10,000 bond.
