Prominent North Carolina CEO lists Wrightsville Beach home for sale at record price

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — One of the most prominent business executives in the Triangle has put his Wrightsville Beach house up for sale. The price tag is $11.4 million — one of the highest on record for the beach town.

Richard Byrne, who started the Raleigh cellphone tower company TowerCo in 2004 and retired in 2018, says the Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach housing market is registering sale numbers never seen before.

Byrne’s business model allowed TowerCo to structure four different holding companies during the 14-year tenure, and all sold for different prices. The first two LLCs sold for about $1.7 billion. The next two were for about $550 million. Tailwind and Soros Capital owned about 80% of the company while the remainder was owned by Byrne, his partners and the TowerCo employees.

As for the coastal market, Byrne said, “It is a phenomenal time to sell. Not to mention we are embarking on some lifestyle changes that are making us put the house for sale.”
