CHARLOTTE — A portion of the historic VanLandingham Estate site in Plaza Midwood sold Nov. 24 with plans for residential development there.

Originally built in 1913, VanLandingham is a 7,088-square-foot estate with an outdoor patio space that now serves as an event venue. In 1983, the building was named to the National Register of Historic Places.

Its owner, Billy Maddalon, subdivided the 6-acre property sometime after purchasing it in 1998. One section is where the original estate sits, which Ascent Real Estate Capital and Stono River Partners restored in 2020 after acquiring 3 acres of the property during the previous year.

But the most recent sale was for an L-shaped, 1.7-acre lot on the property.

The plan is to build 22 townhomes, each unit about 4,600 square feet, on the site.
