Restaurant Bites: What’s new and coming soon near you

CHARLOTTE — New and coming additions to Charlotte’s foodie scene weren’t just limited to one or two parts of the city in March. From South End and Plaza Midwood to north and south Charlotte, a variety of food and beverage options have opened or are in the works across the area.

In South End, for instance, veteran restaurateur Jon Dressler is taking 6,600 square feet in The Line development on Hawkins Street for his sixth concept, with a goal of opening there in November. Already open in that neighborhood is a new ghost kitchen by The Peach Cobbler Factory, allowing that dessert shop to get its foot in the door in the Charlotte market.

Nearby, in Plaza Midwood, Jay and Miketa Davis have opened their second location of LuLu’s Maryland Style Chicken & Seafood, and Concord brewery Southern Strain recently debuted its second taproom about a half-mile away.

In south Charlotte, a second location of Harry’s Grille & Tavern just opened at the Quail Corners shopping center, and a handful of other spots to grab a drink are in progress. That includes The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s plans for Ballantyne, a self-serve beer concept off Carmel Road and an upscale wine bar in the Stonecrest at Piper Glen center.

On the opposite end of Charlotte, a luxury dine-in cinema company has made its debut in the Carolinas with a location in Prosperity Village Shopping Center, and a fast-casual chicken chain opened its first of several planned local restaurants at 5535-A Prosperity Ridge Road.
