ROCK HILL, S.C. — Building a home in Rock Hill could soon be more expensive after city council gave initial approval of an impact fee rate hike on Monday.
If the council votes to approve the increase, it would more than double the fees across the city. This would set impact fees higher than any other town in York County.
While the move would make it more expensive to build in Rock Hill, it would also keep higher costs off of people who already live there.

According to The Rock Hill Herald, it costs about $4,000 in impact fees to build a home there today. If approved, the cost would jump to just over $95,000.
Officials say a final decision could come in the next few weeks with higher fees likely to start in 2027.
