Charlotte door-to-door salesman rubbing some the wrong way

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some Charlotte residents are warning about a door-to-door salesman.

He is reportedly selling phone, internet, and TV bundles in the Highland Creek neighborhood, where Google Fiber and AT&T have been running lines extensively.

Edward Avanesov said the salesman came to his door. He said the man never mentioned his employer and that he talked about Google Fiber and AT&T as if the two companies work together.

“He wasn’t selling the right stuff,” Avanesov said.

J.D. Vidal said the same man came to his door and that he didn’t seem to have the right information about AT&T products, despite wearing an AT&T shirt.

“He’s out selling a bill of goods he can’t deliver, really. I speak for myself and a lot of my neighbors that he’s not welcome to come around here anymore and that’s to put it nicely,” Vidal said.

According to Google Fiber, the company never solicits people door-to-door.

A representative said, “Google Fiber does not have any co-marketing arrangements in place with any other service providers to team up to provide our unique services. There are many other ways that we’re connecting with Charlotte residents.”

AT&T said they do have a salesman going through neighborhoods and is checking to see if this vendor is one of them.

“One of our authorized contractors have been selling AT&T and DIRECTV services door-to-door in the Highland Creek area in recent weeks. AT&T’s authorized salespeople are trained to be hospitable and accommodating. They carry with them identification showing their affiliation with AT&T, as well as telephone contact information to provide further verification. We sell our services door-to-door as a convenience to potential customers and we will look into this,” an AT&T representative said.

The Better Business Bureau advised to ask for ID, ask the salesperson to leave their information, and if you feel too uncomfortable, call police.
