Salisbury woman dies after being stung by yellow jackets

SALISBURY, N.C. — A woman died after being stung by yellow jackets in Salisbury.

A family friend told Channel 9 that Diane Cupp and her son Brian were cleaning up the yard at their home on Bethel Drive when they uncovered a yellow-jacket nest.

The neighbor said about 100 of the yellow jackets chased Brian and he was stung about 25 times.

The wasps then started attacking Diane Cupp. She was stung several times and immediately went into cardiac arrest.

The neighbor said she was allergic to them, but never knew until this happened.

"It's tragic it's the saddest thing I ever heard. She was a good lady," said neighbor Ronnie Smith.

The neighbor said yellow jackets are a problem in the neighborhood.
