Sea Life of Concord to release sea turtle back into ocean

CONCORD, N.C. — The Sea Life inside Concord Mills Mall has completed the rehabilitation of a cold-stunned turtle named “Sweater Weather.”

Sweater Weather was brought to the Sea Life Aquarium in January and will be released this Sunday. The turtle was taken to the aquarium after being one of many turtles stranded along the North Carolina coast during a cold spell. Aquarists worked around the clock rehabbing the turtle.

A Coast Guard boat it set to take several other turtles out of Moorehead City on Sunday. Aquarists have performed pre-release testing on the turtle before being sent to Moorehead City.

“It’s great to be releasing “Sweater Weather” on Sunday off the coast of North Carolina,” said General Manager Erin Prophet. “The Aquarist at SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord have worked hard on this case and proved they are best when it comes to animal care. The Sea Turtle Rescue Center has a purpose in the Charlotte area and played a role in returning Sweater Weather to the ocean”

Sea Life currently has two other rescued sea turtles, Neptune and Beasley.
