CHESTER, S.C. — Three Chester police officers, including Chief Eric Williams, were cleared in a SLED investigation into financial irregularities in the police department.
SLED said there was not enough evidence to file charges, officials announced Tuesday.

A preliminary inquiry into the finances at the Chester Police Department was launched in January.

Chester Mayor Wanda Stringfellow said in a statement in January that three officers were suspended, including Williams. The mayor said they won’t discuss any details because it’s a personnel matter.
Officer Milton Sims had been appointed as interim chief.
No further information has been released.
