FORT MILL, S.C. — The start of the 13th annual South Carolina Strawberry Festival in Fort Mill has been delayed from Friday evening to Saturday morning due to weather.
The festival’s Twitter account tweeted about the change Thursday night, saying the possibility for strong storms, gusty winds, and cloud to ground lightning on Friday was to blame for the delay.
“Our first consideration is to protect the participants and visitors. Weather projections have been steadily indicating gusty winds that could be an issue for some vendors with their merchandise and tents, and of course cloud to ground lightning is dangerous for all,” said Fort Mill Town Manager David Broom.
The Strawberry Festival has had a history of good weather, but in 2019 dangerous weather did force the festival to end early on Saturday evening.
The festival schedule for Saturday will stay the same and the full schedule can be found here.
The festival features music, rides, food vendors, eating contests, wrestling, a car show, and of course, plenty of strawberries.
