South End condo parking deck, vehicles inside vandalized

CHARLOTTE — The walls inside a condominium parking deck were spray-painted and about 20 vehicles were vandalized at 8 a.m. Friday in South End.

Video surveillance shows an Acura SUV pull into The Village of South End garage off South Boulevard and park at the exit for a quick getaway.

A video showed the vandal spray-paint the concrete walls and return to his SUV. He grabs a bat from it and walks up the ramp. Around the corner several vehicles were spray-painted and had their windshields smashed in.

People witnessed the vandalism and they could be seen getting on their phones. They also checked the Acura’s license plate number.

The perpetrator walked back to the Acura with the bat, got in and drove out of the parking deck.

“This is a very quiet area. That is what is so surprising and shocking,” resident Tomer Hadad said.

The graffiti was painted over, and a police report was filed.

Police arrested William Looney, 39, Saturday for the crime. He faces misdemeanor charges for injury to personal property.
