CHESTERFIELD, S.C. — On Wednesday, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that the state grand jury returned a second indictment against suspended Chesterfield County Sheriff Sanford "Sam" Parker Jr.
He was charged with one count of embezzlement and one count of official misconduct in office.
The embezzlement offense is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine at the discretion of the court.
The misconduct offense is a common law misdemeanor, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The indictment alleges that during the course of his employment as sheriff, Parker received funds on behalf of Chesterfield County and cashed or deposited them into his personal bank account for his personal use.
Parker was previously indicted in March on four counts of misconduct in office and two counts of furnishing contraband to inmates. The case was investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
