Crews respond after fire breaks out at fish supply store near Kannapolis

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Crews in Rowan County responded to a fire at a fish supply store Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 7 a.m. at the Greendale Tropical & Saltwater aquarium shop on Goldfish Road, just outside Kannapolis.

Fire Lt. Andrew King said crews were called to the scene to help investigate a structure fire.

Video from the scene showed smoke coming from the building and crews working to put out the fire.

Greendale Tropical & Saltwater sells aquarium-related supplies.

Crews plan to start an investigation into the cause of the fire throughout Friday morning after the fire is officially put out.

Channel 9 is working to learn more about what led up to the fire and if it was weather-related, as rain and wind had moved into the area at the time.

Another fire breaks out in area

At a house not too far from the fire at Greendale, a fire on Virginia Ave in China Grove broke out around 10 a.m.

Alex Parham, who works for the Atwell Fire Department, was off-duty when he saw flames coming from the house while getting his morning coffee. He pulled up to make sure everyone was safe and called in the fire department.

“Just knowing that this is what I trained for whatever is called I can handle,” Parham said about making the quick call to firefighters.

One woman was home with her pets and made it out safely. The fire was contained in eight minutes.

This particular call was not weather-related but Parham and the fire department expect weather-related calls throughout the weekend as Hurricane Ian makes its way into the Carolinas Friday.
