CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The suicide rate is rising across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control, and officials believe it may be due to three major life issues: Relationship problems, substance abuse, and financial crises.
The new CDC report shows that the problem impacts middle-aged adults the most, rising 7 percent from 1999 to 2016.
The suicide rate has increased dramatically in the Carolinas as well.
North Carolina saw a nearly 13 percent increase while South Carolina has a staggering 38 percent increase.
It's important to note, if you or someone you know needs to talk, you can call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
