‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect sought in shootout involving local teacher, drug cartel

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Gar-Yon-Ded-Weh Stepney is believed to have been involved in a shootout earlier this month in Alamance County which ended with two people dead, including a popular Union County teacher.

Union Academy teacher Barney Harris, his brother-in-law, Steven Alexander Stewart and members of the Sinaloa Cartel were caught up in the shootout on April 8.

Harris and Stewart allegedly went to a stash house in Green Level to steal money and drugs from the cartel.

Stepney was charged with first-degree murder and is considered armed and dangerous. His aliases are J4, Garjay and Gary Stephens, according to the sheriff’s office.

His last know address is 2604 Stockton Street in Winston-Salem.
