YORK CO. — York County's income tax assistance program is recruiting volunteers to help low-income, elderly and disabled residents file tax returns.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, known as VITA, trains helpers for free. Its services are free for eligible residents who need help filing income tax returns.
Training for volunteer tax preparers will be held Jan. 12 through Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are not considered professional tax preparers and are not legally liable for the returns they help prepare.
In York County volunteer hours are flexible. Starting in January, volunteers will help York County residents in four locations.
Help with income tax returns will be available in Rock Hill at two locations: City Hall, starting Jan. 26, and the Galleria Mall, starting Feb. 7. At City Hall, VITA services will be available every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until April 15.
At the Galleria, VITA will run every Saturday in February, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In Fort Mill, VITA services will be available at the Leroy Springs Recreation Center.
In Clover, VITA will set up at the Clover Public Library. Fort Mill and Clover VITA programs will be available every Saturday in February from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
