PAGELAND, S.C. — A 17-year-old Pageland resident was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy. Jeremiah J. Lockhart turned himself in to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office for the Saturday shooting of Zaden C. Bratsos.
The shooting took place near CW Baker Circle. Bratsos was later found near North Pearl Street suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Lockhart turned himself in to the authorities on Wednesday afternoon and was taken into custody without incident. Following his surrender, he was transported to the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
Authorities have charged Lockhart with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office characterized the investigation into the Tuesday shooting as active and ongoing.
Sheriff Cambo Streater spoke about the impact the teenager’s death has had on the Pageland community. He credited the work of his staff in locating the suspect.
“This case has weighed heavily on our community,” Streater said. “Our investigators and deputies worked tirelessly to bring this individual into custody. While this is a significant step forward, we remain committed to ensuring justice is fully served. Our thoughts and prayers are with Zaden’s family as they continue to navigate this unimaginable loss.”
Investigators stated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the case proceeds.
