MARSHVILLE, N.C. — A teenager was struck and killed by a train Friday morning in Union County, police said.
Officials are investigating after they say 19-year-old Carlos Guerrero walked across the tracks around 10 a.m. and was hit by a CSX train on Elm Street in Marshville.
Police said the two-car train was traveling only 10 mph when it knocked Guerrero back about 15 feet.
Officials said the teen was wearing headphones, looked up, saw the train and thought he could beat it.
