Thieves steal copper from Amelie's twice in 1 month

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for the person who stole copper from the popular NoDa bakery, Amelie's.

Employees at Amelie's told Channel 9 someone stole copper and damaged the air conditioning units twice in one month.

The bakery just spent thousands of dollars to replace copper from the first theft when someone hit the unit again Tuesday.

"As you can see here this piece has been sawed off -- which connects to the A/C unit," said Leonard Grasham.

Amelie's put up an 8-foot fence after the first theft, but thieves climbed over it and stole the copper again.

The business is now planning to put up barbed wire.
