TSA boasts of low wait times for spring break travelers

CHARLOTTE — TSA boasted of low wait times at its check-points on the busiest day of spring break 2018.

About 34,000 people were expected to travel through Charlotte Douglas International Airport Friday. That’s about 10,000 more people than a normal day.

Despite the large crowds, TSA said it managed to keep wait times for standard passengers between 10 and 15 minutes.

It had predicted an average of 20 minutes to clear TSA check-points.

A spokesman for TSA warned travelers that they could impact those wait times.

"Any prohibited item we find will slow down the process for you and everybody else in the back of the line,” said Kevin Frederick, Federal Security Director of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

He said things like snacks and large electronics would have to be removed from baggage at check-points. You can find a list of dos and do nots at www.tsa.gov.
