CHARLOTTE — Two separate car crashes along Interstate 85 left several people injured Sunday morning in northeast Charlotte.
The wrecks put three people in the hospital with serious injuries and two people were sent with minor injuries.
The first wreck happened on Statesville Avenue near North Graham Street around 2 a.m. Two people were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, MEDIC confirmed.
Less than one hour later, another wreck nearby on I-85 sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries and two people with minor injuries.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation says the crash happened near the same location of the first crash, causing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to close four of five northbound lanes of I-85 near Statesville Avenue.
Both wrecks caused traffic issues but all lanes were opened back up later Sunday morning.
