Uptown property home to neighborhood staple hits market for $1.5M

CHARLOTTE — Neighborhood staple Alexander Michael’s isn’t going anywhere — but its building at 401 W. Ninth St. could have new owners soon.

Premier Sotheby’s has listed the 0.055-acre property for $1.5 million, says Linwood Bolles. He represents property owner Mitro LLC.

Alexander Michael’s opened back in April of 1983, but the building has a 122-year-old history.

Owner Steve Casner says the restaurant’s location, menu and longtime employees have made the restaurant a Fourth Ward staple.

“We’re strong here; we’re an independent place; we’ve made it through covid; I feel really good about what’s about to happen over the next couple months or so,” said Casner.

Casner is confident that any sale will be structured to allow Alexander Michael’s to remain on-site, with its lease being extended or renegotiated

The historic building has had several uses over the years, but Casner says the building feels like home for the restaurant.
