Woman brutally attacked by teens gives warning to others

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman who was beaten and robbed inside her north Charlotte home more than two years ago was back in the courtroom Tuesday when one of the alleged attackers faced a judge.

Norma Messer spoke to people in the Forest Pawtuckett community who have seen a rise in youth violence and said she knows how teenagers who commit crimes keep getting out of jail.

“I turned around and there (were) these three people coming through my door,” Messer said.

“The first thing he said to me was, ‘Get on the floor, (expletive,)’” she said.

Not only did they beat and rob her, officials said they bound her hands with duct tape and covered her head with a plastic bags.

“I tried to keep turning my head because I knew if they got it too tight, I was going to suffocate,” she said.

Left for dead, she managed to escape to a neighbor's house.

Days later, the suspects arrested turned out to be Myron Bullock, then 18, his girlfriend, Sylessa Ford, 17, and two juveniles who Messer had tried to help and had mentored in her home for years.

“The feeling of betrayal was so devastating that it’s hard to explain if it had been a total stranger it would have been better,” Messer said.

Bullock and Ford have been sentenced and one of the juveniles was back in court again Tuesday.

She said her story offers a warning for others in Charlotte about how bad youth violence has grown.

“The public needs to know they are in danger because it is a revolving door with these kids,” Messer said.
