Video appears to show day care teacher forcing child to smack another

CHARLOTTE — Disturbing video footage shows what appears to be a teacher using a child’s hand to smack another child in the face at a west Charlotte day care.

The woman who shot the video told Channel 9 what happened last Thursday at Pure Genius Childcare after two toddlers began to fight on a playground.

“She got up very angry,” said the witness, who did not want to be identified. “She rushed over to the child, grabbed him, came to the other child, used her hand and his hand to smack the child in his face around four times, saying, ‘That’s not nice.’”

The woman said she was an employee at the day care until a few days ago when she got fired.

She showed Channel 9 her termination letter citing the fact she took that video as a reason for her termination. The woman said it was worth it for her to protect the children by sharing the video with parents.

“God sent me there for a reason,” she said. “A lot of these children can’t speak for themselves, and I was their voice.”

Channel 9 has emailed and called Pure Genius Childcare for the past two days to get more information about the incident and ask if the teacher in the video was suspended or terminated.

Someone answered the phone on Wednesday and said they had no comment.
