CHARLOTTE — A video shows a first responder giving a cat oxygen after a fire that happened Wednesday morning in southeast Charlotte.
The accidental fire at a home on Commonwealth Avenue near East Independence Boulevard caused about $22,000 in damage.

A paramedic from MEDIC saved the life of the cat after rendering first aid. The first responder could be seen laying on the ground with the cat, gently petting it.
Unfortunately, other cats did not survive.
No one was home when the fire broke out in the kitchen.
The resident was displaced and is staying with friends.
