Vigil held in Mooresville in wake of Charlottesville violence

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Four days ago a driver plowed through a group of counterprotesters at an alt-right rally in Charlottesville and Heather Heyer, 32, died in the crash.

Since then, millions across the country, have called for peace.

There was a gathering of about 100 people Wednesday night in downtown Mooresville showing love and solidarity with Charlottesville.

Angela Stutts said she was disturbed by the violence this weekend.

"I thought by coming together, it would give me a sense of peace and it's really done that," Stutts said.

People at the candlelight vigil prayed for greater unity in the community and prayed for those harboring the rage that led to Saturday's violence.

Tonya Cowan brought her children to show them people of different races and backgrounds can unite to make a difference.

"I hope a lot of people wake up; can't sweep this under the rug,” Cowan said.
