HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The ongoing drought is forcing an Independence Day tradition to be canceled.
The Huntersville Fire Department, along with town and Birkdale Village leaders, said the Wet Down Independence Day event will not happen this weekend.
Officials cited Mecklenburg County’s water restrictions and the need to ensure their crews can respond to calls amid the heat.
All other aspects of Birkdale Village’s annual Fourth of July event will go on as planned.
