CHARLOTTE — A west Charlotte business owner is asking the group of teens who broke into his barbershop over the weekend to come forward.
Brian Mack, the owner of House of Hoops Barbershop on Little Rock Road, says his alarm went off just before 3 Saturday morning.
The entire break-in lasted less than a minute, and by the time he arrived at his shop, police were already there.
“The first thing I was thinking is why would somebody break into the barbershop? What’s in there to take?” Mack said. “When I got here, and I saw the glass, the last thing I was thinking of was the shoes.”
Mack says the stolen shoes were community donations for young athletes whose families may not be able to afford them.
He says the teens also stole clippers and caused about $1,000 in damage.
Mack posted the security camera footage on social media in hopes that someone would speak out.
“The feedback from the community has kind of kept me motivated because I was really hurt at first,” he said. “We are out here doing it for free. Those guys could have come in here, and we would have given them every shoe on the rack.”
He says the break-in will not stop them from giving back. Barbering gave him a chance to build a business and support his family. Now, he wants to extend that same opportunity.
Mack says he wants to give the teens a second chance, but first, he wants them to take responsibility.
“Give me one or two weeks in here sweeping the floor,” he said. “That would be payment enough for me.”
Channel 9 reached out to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information. Police say they are investigating.
