Man arrested months after hit-and-run crash left woman dead on birthday

A man has been arrested months after the hit-and-run death of a 65-year-old woman, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release.

CHARLOTTE — A man has been arrested and charged in a hit-and-run that left a 65-year-old woman dead, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Hoskin Mills Lane at about 4:15 a.m. on July 5 and found Barbara Walker on the pavement of the parking lot.

Paramedics took her to Atrium Health-CMC Main, where she died on July 12, which was her birthday.

Police said they arrested 53-year-old Clive Anthony Hayes on Wednesday for his involvement in her death.

Hayes has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and felony hit and run.
