CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Good Samaritans pulled a woman from a burning SUV Wednesday afternoon along Interstate 277.
Flames and heavy smoke billowed from the SUV’s engine as bystanders came to the rescue about 3:30 p.m. on the median of I-277 outer at the split onto Independence Boulevard, a witness said.
Once the woman was safe, other bystanders pulled fire extinguishers from their own vehicles in an attempt to douse the fire, but the blaze was too much.
Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.
No injuries were reported and a mechanical issue caused the fire, officials said.
