Woman receives Christmas wish after surviving serious motorcycle crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Just days after a serious motorcycle crash, Lynette Matusik is cut up and bruised, but thankful to be alive.

"I wouldn't be alive at all if it wasn't for that helmet," said Matusik.

She only opened up to Channel 9 to describe her long journey to recovery after a life-changing moment on the road.

Matusik said she went for a motorcycle ride along Central Avenue Saturday afternoon when someone pulled out in front of her.

"The light was green, everything was good and all of a sudden, a car was in front of me, after that I blacked out," said Matusik.

First responders said she landed directly on her face.

"It was a very scary feeling. It was the most serious injury I've ever had in my life," she said.

Matusik told Channel 9 that the impact from the crash was so strong, her upper teeth bit through her lower lip and she suffered a face fracture.

Despite the bad injury, she said she got her Christmas wish Monday.

"This morning, I got the news that I won't need surgery. I'll need extensive dental work, but I'll get to go home for Christmas," she said.

While the road to recovery won't be easy, Matusik, who has been riding bikes for 10 years, said she still plans to keep riding motorcycles in the future.

"One day I'll get another bike and just remain more careful," said Matusik.

Channel 9 contacted police and learned they are investigating the crash as accidental and no charges will be filed.

Matusik's family started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for her medical expenses.
