RALEIGH — Stephenie Cunningham, of Charlotte, claimed a $1 million top prize after purchasing a $30 Max-A-Million scratch-off ticket from the QuikTrip on Burton Lane in Cornelius, N.C. Education Lottery officials announced.

Cunningham arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect her winnings. She chose to receive a lump-sum payment of $600,000 rather than an annuity of $50,000 annually more than 20 years, bringing her final take-home total to $432,068 after required state and federal tax withholdings. lottery officials said.

The Max-A-Million game debuted in March 2025 featuring 25 top prizes of $1 million. Twelve of those top prizes currently remain to be claimed. The odds of winning a $1 million prize in the game are 1 in 363,970.

Lottery ticket sales contribute directly to public school funding across the state, lottery officials said. Education programs in Mecklenburg County received $60 million in support from lottery proceeds last year.
