Workers desperate to find puppies after pet store robbed twice in 4 months

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Workers are desperate to find two puppies stolen from a Greensboro pet store Saturday night.

Friendly Pets manager Eliza Sargeant said two women asked to play with the puppies in the playrooms and when workers weren't looking, the women ran out the front door with two French bulldogs.

Sargeant said the puppies are worth $4,500 and this is the second time in four months someone has stolen a dog of this breed from the store.

In August, another French bulldog was stolen but was found a few days later.

"When people are just going in and taking them without a second thought, they ruin the chance of the puppy finding the right, perfect home," said Sargeant.

The puppies, June and Jasper, are just a few months old and because of their age, Sargeant said they are still in need of medical attention.

Friendly Pets plans to update its playroom policy and add more security cameras after the recent robberies.

The manager said customers will now have to fill out a waiver and provide a valid ID before they can take a dog into a playroom.

“We are going to end up backing up the puppy line doing that. We are going to get people frustrated, but the more frustrated the people are, we're going to be just as frustrated because people have taken advantage of our opportunities to let our pets be free-roam, to let our petters be open,” said Sargeant.

The store feels the new restrictions are now necessary to keep the animals safe.

"We're here to help the animals find a better home. We're here to care for them and love them and spoil them and find them that perfect placement," Sargeant said.

According to Sargeant, both June and Jasper are microchipped and have been flagged, so if a shelter or veterinarian comes across them, the store will be notified.
