CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Just as Charlotte Douglas International Airport and American Airlines Group Inc. were bracing for peak passenger traffic amid the Thanksgiving holiday rush, workers who cater in-flight meals for the carrier staged a demonstration to demand better pay and benefits. Photos posted on social media show a crowd gathered just outside the terminal at CLT on Tuesday.
The demonstration in Charlotte apparently wasn’t as raucous as in Philadelphia, where nearly 40 people were arrested for failing to follow police orders to disperse.
Unite Here, an organization that says it represents workers throughout the U.S. and Canada in the hotel, gaming, food service and airport industries, estimates 150 people participated in the protest in Charlotte.
