Man accused of unloading gun on girlfriend's ex in drive-by

HICKORY, N.C. — Police arrested two people in connection to a drive-by shooting in southeast Hickory Friday afternoon.

Police said Summer Michelle Coleman, 27, was driving and her boyfriend, Vanzelle Keith Chatman, 26, shot the gun, according to our news partner, The Hickory Daily Record.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Fourth Street and Eighth Avenue Drive, SW around 2:50 p.m.

Police said the two were in a Chevy Suburban and shot 11 rounds at a Toyota Camry with Coleman’s ex-boyfriend in the car.  There was another passenger in the Camry during the shoot-out as well.

No one was injured, although four of the 11 shots fired hit the car.

Just hours after the shooting, officers took out warrants on Coleman and Chatman.

The Suburban was found Saturday morning at the Red Roof Inn on Lenoir-Rhyne Boulevard.

The pair was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Chatman's bond was set at $75,000 secured. Coleman's bond was set at $50,000 secured.

Coleman is due in court July 19 on pending charges of driving while impaired and an open container violation, according to The Hickory Daily Record.
