UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 12-year-old boy.
Deputies said they responded to a home in the Suburban Estates subdivision after receiving reports about a shooting.
At the scene, deputies found a 12-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the leg. The boy was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said 20-year-old Adan Ruiz was identified as a person of interest and was taken into custody a short distance away from the victim’s home.
An investigation revealed that Ruiz had fired multiple rounds at the victim and his home during the assault.
He is being held at the jail in Union County and has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, injury to personal and real property and discharging a firearm inside of town limits.
