CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte pastor who died from an accidental gunshot wound will be succeeded in the pulpit by his son.
The Rev. Phillip RJ Davis will be installed Friday as the new senior pastor of Nations Ford Community Church.
Officials said they'll introduce him to the community at a ceremony Friday at 7 p.m.
His father, Bishop Phillip Milton Davis, led the congregation for 36 years.
Authorities said Phillip Milton Davis was cleaning his pistol at his Weddington home Aug. 29 when it accidentally fired, causing a fatal chest wound.
In a statement Tuesday, the church said Phillip RJ Davis "is the person desired" by his parents "to be elevated to the office of senior pastor."
Phillip RJ Davis recently founded the Lead Charlotte Group, which the church said is a movement created "to empower a new generation for community leadership."
