$50K reward offered after Indianapolis mail carrier fatally shot

INDIANAPOLIS — A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person -- or persons -- who fatally shot an Indianapolis mail carrier Monday afternoon.

The reward is being offered by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, WXIN reported.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Angela Summers, 45, the television station reported. The USPS confirmed she was one of its employees.

Monday afternoon, Indianapolis police found Summers with at least one gunshot wound, according to WXIN. Summers was “awake and talking” and was taken to an area hospital, where she later died, the television station reported.

“I heard the gunshots,” a woman who lived on the street where the shooting occurred told WTHR. “Probably seven, eight, 10, maybe. It sounded like a lot.”

Police said they did not have a description of the shooter, WXIN reported. There has been no reported motive.

“It’s really too early to tell what led up to this,” Mike Hewitt, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, told WTHR. “I know the detectives right now are separating witnesses and they’re spending time talking with those witnesses to try and get an idea exactly who the suspect is and exactly what led up to this."
