Alabama man accused of stealing items from Crimson Tide locker room

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama man is accused of stealing items from the University of Alabama’s football locker room while the Crimson Tide was playing Tennessee last month, authorities said.

Grant Cortland Collins, 31, of Huntsville, was charged with third-degree felony burglary on Monday, WHNT reported. He also was charged with drug possession after Tuscaloosa police said they found methamphetamine in a car he was driving, according to the television station.

According to the University of Alabama Police Department, surveillance video from Oct. 23 shows Collins entering the Crimson Tide locker room at Bryant-Denny Stadium, WPMI reported. Surveillance footage shows Collins leaving the area six minutes later, according to the television station.

It was unclear how Collins gained access to the locker room. A university spokesman declined to discuss specifics of the case.

Police reported nearly two dozen items taken from the locker room, including an MCM backpack, a Michael Kors purse, a JBL speaker, nearly a dozen Apple electronic devices, a driver’s license, prescription medication and multiple lighters and cigars, WPMI reported.

Madison County Jail records show Huntsville police arrested Collins on Oct. 28 on a misdemeanor traffic charge, and a failure to appear warrant, WHNT reported. He was released from the jail Monday and was taken to Tuscaloosa, where he was charged with the Bryant-Denny Stadium burglary, Collins was later released after posting bail.

Attorneys Nick Lough and Robert Tuten will defend Collins, WAAY-TV reported.

“Obviously the headlines are very catchy,” Lough, told the television station. “Any time you have anything involving the University of Alabama and its football team, there’s going to be a lot of attention on it.”
