HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla. — Surveillance video shows an out-of-control car smashing through the front door of a south Florida store, hitting a man inside.
In a Facebook post, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the 21-year-old driver behind the wheel of the car mistook the gas pedal for the brake and crashed into the store on Hutchinson Island.
MAN INJURED AFTER 21-YEAR OLD DRIVER HITS ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF BRAKE (***warning graphic video***) Just short of a miracle, the victim in this video is expected to recover after being hit by a vehicle that crashed through the front doors of this store. The crash happened at the Plantation Pantry on Hutchinson Island last night. The 21-year old driver said she meant to hit the brake, but missed. The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries to his face from the glass breakage. He is expected to recover. While first responders tended to the victim, he was talking and remained in unusually good spirits, asking deputies if his beer he just purchased was ok. Careless driving charges against the driver are likely. We will update this as information becomes available.
